War of Words (WOW) Slam Poetry is Back With a Bang!

Are you a poet, a lover of performance poetry and all things art? Then you’ll be pleased to know that the number one Slam Poetry Competition in Nigeria, War Of Words, is back and better this 2018 with Season 7!

The competition will feature 60 finalists in 4 quarterfinals, one semifinal and a Grand Final.

Prizes include:

  • N250,000 (i.e. US$600) for the winner
  • N150,000 (i.e. US$400) for the 1st runner up
  • N100,000 (i.e. US$250) for the 2nd runner up.

It doesn’t end there. There will also be prizes for the top three poets at each of the 4 quarterfinals.

  • 1st gets N50,000
  • 2nd gets N30,000
  • 3rd gets N20,000

Plus, there will be consolation prizes for other contestants/ poets. The best poem/ poetry performance of the entire competition gets the sum N50,000!

The competition is open to all Poets or poetry enthusiasts (within and outside Nigeria) whether or not they have performed at any War Of Words or WORD UP event.

Phases in the competition are as follows:

  1. Submission of videos by poets/ contestants based on a pre-determined theme, and this will be from 12am on Sunday June 1, 2018 till Midnight of Friday August 10, 2018.
  2. Selection and announcement of the 60 finalists that will battle it out in the main event of the competition. The 60 poets will be announced on or before Monday August 13, 2018.
  3. The main event (on stage performance of the finalists) is scheduled to hold over 6 weeks and will feature the 60 finalists in 4 quarterfinals, one semifinal and a Grand Final.

The main event starts from Sunday September 9, 2018 and holds daily thereafter, hurry and register.

The KÖNA Recreative Hub, 1, Ebunolu Adegboruwa Lane. Off Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, Nigeria. (Directions: From Lekki Phase 1 gate, take a bike/ Keke Marwa/ jog or drive down to the last junction of Admiralty Way i.e. the end of Admiralty Way. Then turn left and look out for Ebunolu Adegboruwa Lane on your right. KÖNA Recreative Hub is the first building by the left, Number One.)
