Year in year out, there are some events in Nigeria (Lagos in particular) that are just too HOT to miss for literature and art enthusiasts out there. Looks like things just get hotter towards the end of the year; from Aké Festival, LIPFest, LABAF, Art X, , The African Writers Meet, and many others, you’re sure to have enough fun and experiences to last you till the New Year. Plus, it’s an opportunity to meet new people, get off your couch (easier said than done, I know), and network. Need I add that even your bank account will testify to the goodness of Lagos? LOL!

Lagos International Poetry Festival
Everybody and anybody who knows what poetry means to them in Nigeria is literally talking about and definitely looking forward to this event.

Theme: “Wide Awake”
LIPFest2018 examines the growing importance of vigilance in a post-truth era. Conversations will explore new frontiers in the fight for gender equality and identity, racial and social justice and how the concerns of awakening collective consciousness and mediating justified paranoia animates art.
Lagos Fringe Festival
What came to your mind when you read the word “fringe”? Which one is fringe again? Lol.
The quintessential performing arts festival; Lagos Fringe, will be held from 11 till 18 November 2018 in Lagos across various venues in collaboration with the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), Lagos Book & Art Festival (LABAF), and Women in the Arts. The Lagos Fringe strand is an open access showcase for performers, exhibitors, vendors and production companies to present their work without restriction to style such as Theatre, Children’s theatre, Dance, Film, Spoken word, Comedy, Puppetry, Cabaret, Photography, Face Painting, Martial Arts Display, Music, Interdisciplinary arts etc.

Lagos Photo Festival
October 27 – November 15, 2018

Theme: “Time Has Gone”, the 9th edition of Lagos Photo Festival, explores the configurations by which the past, the present and the future interact within the photographic medium. Time will be approached from different angles, highlighting matters of momentum, documentation and preservation, taking into consideration the intimacy of stories as well as the breadth of the concept itself.
Lagos Photo Festival is the first and only international arts festival of photography in Nigeria is set to presents photography in a new light in Nigeria, as well as to explore historical and contemporary issues.

Stage Plays
A great way to see a dramatic text in a new dimension (apart from your imagination) is a stage play; the dance, cultural representation and unique atmosphere will make every moment worthwhile. Here are some plays you shouldn’t miss come November:
1. The new adaptation of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives by Sourmash Stories will be live at Terra Kulture Arena 1 on 4th November and Muson Centre on 8th to 11th November. Get tickets to the event here and here

2. The Confab: Nwando Alayande’s stage play, The Confab is a satire about Nigeria, fused with comedy and witty dialogue. Representatives and delegates from the various geo-political zones of the country gather at the Confab, with the sole aim of sharing the proverbial “National Cake”. However, they all encounter more than they had bargained for at The Confab.
